“Indian girls hold up their name change certificates during a ceremony in Satara, some 250kms from Mumbai, on Oct. 22. More than 100 Indian girls named “Unwanted” by their parents are to get new names this weekend as part of a campaign to tackle bias against women that has led to the country’s huge gender imbalance. The girls named “Nakusa”, which means “unwanted” in the local Marathi language of western Maharashtra state, got rid of their first name for good under an initiative in the district of Satara.” (via PhotoBlog - 285 girls make fresh start in India by changing their names from ‘Unwanted’)

Gentlemen (and ladies), this is how a vest and pants are supposed to look together. No waistband or belt or big ugly buckle or bits of shirt poking out underneath. The bottom of the vest covers the top of the pants. Also, note that the vest fits him: No straining around the chest or waist.

Gramps Maple: “But let me tell you one thing, Mr. Squier. The woman don’t live or ever did live that’s worth five thousand dollars!”
Alan Squier: “Well let me tell you something. You’re a forgetful old fool. Any woman’s worth everything that any man has to give: anguish, ecstasy, faith, jealousy, love, hatred, life or death. Don’t you see that’s the whole excuse for our existence? It’s what makes the whole thing possible and tolerable.”

Astaire and his shoes.
This is one of the best things I’ve seen on Tumblr. So much to admire here: The man and his natural ease, the grey flannels and classic button-down, the suede monkstraps (several pairs), the suede brogues with contrasting shoelaces, the spectators… So much to learn from.
